How to use a Reed Diffuser

What is a Reed Diffuser?

Reed diffusers are a popular home fragrance product. As well as providing a continuous beautiful fragrance in your home, they are available in a variety of different styles of bottles, colour of reeds and scents. They are low maintenance and a stylish and elegant option to add to your home décor.  

How does a Reed Diffuser work?   

Typically a Reed Diffuser is a bottle with a neck. It has reed diffuser sticks which sit in the bottle and soak up either the essential oil or fragrance oil blend and disperse the scent around the room.

The liquid in the reed diffuser bottles is either a mixture of a diffuser base and essential oils, or a blend of a diffuser base and a fragrance oil, which is what gives the diffusers their scent.

Essential oils are extracted from a plant's leaves, bark and roots. The oils capture a plant's scent and are often blended with a natural carrier oil so we are able to use them.  

Fragrance oils are artificially created scents, they may contain some natural products, but will always have a synthetic element.  

There are a number of different sizes and thickness of reeds and they are either a synthetic or a natural material. Fibre reeds are synthetic and bamboo and rattan reeds are natural. They all have different qualities which impact the scent throw and how long your diffuser will last.  

How to use a Reed Diffuser

Reed diffusers come in a variety of different size bottles. As a general rule we recommend using 6 reeds in a 100-200ml diffuser bottle and 10 reeds in a 200-500ml bottle. The size of the room, the airflow and the intensity of the scent can all affect how strong the fragrance will be. If you find the scent isn’t strong enough, try adding more reeds or moving the position of the diffuser.
